Improve profitability by reviewing overhead, strengthening shipment pricing and removing repeated operational waste. More revenue helps only when enough remains after the work is done.

How to Increase Your Profit Margin as a Freight Broker ↗

How can a freight broker improve profitability?
Luis identifies three places to look: operating costs, negotiation and systems. They work together. Saving on a subscription will not solve consistently weak pricing, and higher margins can disappear if every load takes unnecessary hours to manage.
Start with your own numbers. Separate the spread on a shipment from the money left after salaries, financing, software and other expenses. That distinction lets you see whether the problem is buying and selling freight or running the business around it.
Review recurring expenses with a purpose
List the services you pay for and the work each one performs. Look for unused seats, overlapping tools and subscriptions bought for a stage of business you have not reached. The prices in the original video are historical, so use your current invoices.
Keep the controls the business needs. Removing an essential verification step to save a fee can create a much larger exposure. The useful question is whether a tool earns its place through time saved, service improvement or risk management.
Negotiate from a complete shipment picture
Know the requirements before you quote the shipper or talk to the carrier. Service, timing, equipment and accessorial conditions affect whether two prices describe the same job. A cheap truck that cannot perform the move is not a saving.
Small improvements can add up. As a simple example, an additional $25 of gross profit across 100 shipments is $2,500 before any additional costs or taxes. Treat that as arithmetic, not a reason to assume every customer will accept an increase.
Standardize the work that repeats
Luis describes using a consistent format for quote requests so the team gets the same essential information each time. A repeatable handoff reduces the time spent hunting for missing details and explaining the same task again.
Choose one recurring delay this week. Document the inputs, responsible person and completion check. Measure whether the change reduces errors or handling time before adding more software or more people. The goal is a brokerage that delivers good service with less avoidable effort.
