How can a broker reach a shipping decision-maker?
Luis’s lesson begins with a common frustration: you reach the company, get transferred and land in voicemail again. His suggestion is to understand the organization and find a person who can make a useful internal introduction.
That requires preparation. Know why you are contacting the company and what you hope to discuss. An introduction should help the right people connect; it should not create the impression that someone has endorsed you when they have not.
Choose a relevant contact
Depending on the business, an owner, purchasing leader or another manager may know who handles transportation. Ask for direction rather than demanding access. Large organizations may have a formal vendor process that is the correct route.
Respect the people answering the phone. Repeatedly bypassing a clear refusal will not build a good reputation. The purpose is to resolve uncertainty about the right contact, not wear the company down.
Use a short, honest request
An illustrative approach is: “I’m trying to find the right person to discuss transportation support for your shipments. Could you point me to that person or your vendor process?” Add a specific, truthful reason your service may be relevant.
If someone agrees to introduce you, use their name only in the way they authorized. Do not say you have been referred or recommended merely because a receptionist transferred the call.
Be ready when the introduction works
Once connected, ask about the operation and the needs you researched. Avoid rewarding the introduction with a long generic pitch. Your first useful outcome may be permission to send information or a date to reconnect.
Record the preferred process and the next step. Luis’s broader point is to approach the company with empathy and intention. An internal introduction can help open a conversation, but service relevance and follow-through are what give the relationship a reason to continue.
