THE SHORT ANSWER

Can pickup and delivery facilities become shipper leads?

A facility connected to work you have legitimately handled may be a useful prospect. Research who controls its freight, respect existing agreements and use the real context to open a conversation.

Can pickup and delivery facilities become shipper leads?

Luis points out a source of prospects that brokers can overlook: facilities they have already encountered while handling freight. You may know a location, its receiving process or the type of product moving through it. That gives you a more informed starting point than a company name on a purchased list.

It does not automatically give you permission to solicit the business. Check confidentiality and customer or carrier agreements first. The opportunity is to use legitimate operating knowledge responsibly, not to trade on another party’s protected relationships.

Find out who controls the freight

A warehouse can handle a lot of freight without choosing the transportation provider. Before preparing a pitch, learn what the business does and whether it controls outbound, inbound or neither side of the move.

Ask a straightforward question about responsibility. For example: “Who handles transportation for the freight you arrange from this location?” That is an illustrative opener, not a claim that every facility will have an opportunity for you.

Use an honest reason for calling

If you have genuinely coordinated a delivery there, explain that accurately. Do not imply the facility has hired you before if it was the receiving location for someone else’s shipment. A small exaggeration at the start can undo the trust you are trying to build.

Luis’s broader advice is to make the exchange conversational. Ask a question, leave room for the answer and respond to what the person actually says. A long speech about excellent service is less useful than learning how they currently move freight.

Record the next step, even when it is not a quote

You may learn the right contact, the preferred onboarding process or that all freight is customer routed. Each answer helps you decide whether to continue and how to follow up.

Keep the useful details in your prospect record. The advantage of this approach is relevant context. It does not remove the need for research, qualification or patient relationship building, and it does not guarantee a conversion.
